Webinar 'EIT Artificial Intelligence for Europe: Results and future steps'
February 23, 2022
EIT Digital, EIT Health, EIT Manufacturing, EIT ClimateKIC, EIT InnoEnergy and EIT Food have joined forces to foster collaboration in, education about, and uptake of Artificial Intelligence by European enterprises and society:
The EIT Artificial Intelligence Community consists of the following Knowledge and Innovation Communities, or KICs: EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Digital, EIT InnoEnergy (since 2021), EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility (in 2020 only). Through the KICs, EIT strengthens cooperation among businesses (including SMEs), higher education institutions and research organisations, forms dynamic pan-European partnerships, and creates favourable environments for creative thought processes and innovations to flourish.
The KICs carry out activities that cover the entire innovation chain: training and education programmes, reinforcing the journey from research to the market, innovation projects, bringing new products and services to market, as well as business incubators and accelerators.
As part of the Cross-KIC Innovation Impact initiative, we aim at facilitating the KICs’ innovation capacities and leveraging the impact of the KICs’ innovation pillar.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an area of strategic importance and a key driver of economic development. As a result, a European initiative was kicked off in Q2, 2019 called “Artificial Intelligence for Europe”. A budget allocated of around € 2.5 billion has been earmarked in order to increase efforts in the key areas of AI in Europe:
Furthermore, the AI Alliance has been founded with the aim of supporting the technological, ethical, legal and socio-economic aspects that boost EU's research and industrial capacity in AI, and to put AI at the service of European citizens and economy. In particular, it seeks to ensure that policies are in place to secure each EU citizen during this initiative.
The EIT in turn is investing resources in this Cross KIC initiative that will position the EIT Community as one of the major players and thought leaders on AI in Europe.

Welcome to the Deep Tech Artificial Intelligence Skills,
EIT AI Community has deployed an innovative data driven analysis in the AI skills gaps in Europe. The results of the above-mentioned investigation are presented in a network-based visual database, through different views -AI Network Maps. This kind of visualization allows for easier identification of nodes and the networks they form. Inside each of the views you find more details about how to interact and further explore it. If you are looking for full interactivity and functionalities, consider logging in the AI Networks landing page and start your own exploratory analysis using our DTT AI Dashboard.

The overall goal of EIT is to increase Europe's competitiveness, its sustainable economic growth and job creation by promoting and strengthening cooperation among leading businesses, education and research organisations. In addition, EIT powers innovation and entrepreneurship in Europe by creating environments for creative and innovative thoughts to thrive. In this context, the utilisation of AI is having a major impact on the function of society and business. It is an essential technological driver, which can lead, in addition to better productivity, also to new ways of working, processes and business opportunities. The composition of work will change and there will be new professions. A central issue is how we can best exploit the opportunities brought by digitalization and AI in creating added value and enhancing productivity. This applies to both the private and public sectors including ethical questions to be pondered on, when the decision-making shifts partly from humans to machines. To get inspired, you can browse some AI use cases following this link.
The first step is to understand the current performance and readiness level of applying AI in your organisation. After that, selecting potential improvement steps becomes possible.
VTT’s AI Maturity Tool can be used as a free-of-charge self-assessment web tool, which produces a result graph, a visualisation of AI maturity. It gives a baseline of your company’s current AI maturity in six dimensions, which than can be used to recognise the most important, required or urgent development targets. These targets vary depending on the nature of your business and size of your organisation, therefore feel free to contact us. We are open for questions and discussions, as how you can proceed after this assessment.
The six dimensions to be assessed in the AI Maturity Tool include Strategy and Management, Products and Services, Competence and Cooperation, Processes, Data and Technology. You can choose from different languages to fill out the survey. For now, the following languages are available: English, Finish, German, Spanish, Polish and Italian.
